Here's how.

1.  Order a uniform through your team captain.  You received an email last week.

The Season Begins

The USATF-NJ Grand Prix Series kicks back up next weekend at the Jimmy D 5k!  A race on its 10th year, the race director being our very own Erin Varga, it is the USATF-NJ 5k Master's Women's Championship in 2014.  All women, ages 40 and up, are encouraged to email co-captain Prudence Jones at prudence_jones@yahoo.com to participate!

Right now, it's looking like Michelle, Stephanie, Prudence, Erin, Alicia, and Sandi will be out there for the Black and Gold.  Come join in on the team fun as

other club members are using it as a rust-buster for the looming fall season.

Team Social Outing

On August 28th a few of the GSTCers and I will be heading out to the Lakewood Blueclaws game at 7:05 pm. We plan on getting the lawn seats (only $8) and enjoying a nice night of baseball with some running friends. It is also $1 beer and 50 cent (not the rapper) wing night at the game. So bring some friends or family and lets have a fun night out as a team.  Email Dan at dteichs19@yahoo.com for more information!

Cheyenne's Tip of the Week

Crickets are evil, loud, and obnoxious little creatures.

Kyle's Korner

Kyle's Korner is a segment of the Club's weekly email that will focus on reacquainting you with a different current club member each week. We will catch you up on how they are doing with regards to their training, their lives, and other general nonsense. This segment intends to be informative and educational while attempting humor in a purely inoffensive way. Mostly.

This week on Kyle's Korner we spoke with one of our half milers that appears to have caught the distance runner bug. Ricky Garcia is well known for his impressive times on the track but he come December that might not be all he's known for.

Kyle: Hello Ricky, thanks for joining us!

Mr. Garcia: Hello Kyle, thanks for having me.

Kyle: So to start off how has your summer been?

Mr. Garcia: It's been great! I've been on vacations all summer and just got back from a month-long trip to Ecuador.

Kyle: Ooo exotic. Have you managed to get some training in with all of your time away?

Mr. Garcia: Yeah but it's a bit harder.. And a bit more dangerous ha.

Kyle: I'm pretty sure Chuck is getting a hard lesson in that right now. So any plans for the fall? A surprise XC race? Or just training through till indoor?

Mr. Garcia: Well I always use XC as a base for my training, my real goal is in June, during outdoor nationals.

Kyle: So we won't be seeing you at deer park race?

Mr. Garcia: Oh yes you will! I'm doing XC and expecting huge results out of it, but as most half milers, I see XC as a way to help build the engine.

Kyle: Hey if your results end up being huge enough you might not have to wait till June for nationals.

Mr. Garcia: True, December could be another goal.

Kyle: That would certainly light some fire under the other half milers if you manage to make it to XC nats.

Are you ready to open up the lesson plans again?

Mr. Garcia: Oh god no! Back to school commercials are the worst. They certainly don't help ha

Kyle: Yeah I always hated those but fortunately they don't affect me anymore. Do you coach as well?

Mr. Garcia: Yeah I'm coaching the Middle School XC team. It's my first time so I'm looking forward to it.

Kyle: That's awesome! Helping the younger kids get involved and excited about our sport. Have you met your team yet?

Mr. Garcia: Unfortunately I haven't yet.

Kyle: Ahh well I'm sure they'll love Coach Ricardo. Good luck with it! Well hey that's all the time we have this week. Thanks for talking with us!

Mr. Garcia: Thank you sir.

Kyle: Log on next week to see who we interview!

FEATURED TEAM EVENT THIS WEEK: Saturday and Sunday Team Runs
at River Road
Scenic views, soft surfaces, no cars, and some good shade....a perfect place to meet up with some teammates for a weekend run!  This weekend, we are hosting two runs at the same place, on Saturday and Sunday, at 9:00am.

RACE RESULTS

Don Weise grabbed third place in his age group, and 19th overall, at the Mohonk Bridge to Bridge 5 Mile Trail Run this weekend.  The masters  runner is looking to have a big fall for the black and gold!

Will Appman made his  international debut over the weekend, running the La Valse Des Coureurs 5k in Montreal, Canada.  He won the race and set the course record in 16:33.  Next time, Will, maybe don't wear GSTC stuff while you waive the American flag to the international crowd...we have enough enemies here in America, for goodness sakes--we don't need any more!

Anna Steinman ran the Annapolis 10 miler-- a beautiful, very hilly, and tough course. It started at Navy Stadium and went all along downtown by the bay and around neighborhoods around the Naval Academy.   She ran 1:10, and while not satisfied with it, she recognizes it was a great training run for the NYC hills soon to come in November...

Steve "Stiv" Mennitt won the Storm King 10k this weekend, one of the most grueling courses around, in 34:01.  For his efforts, he won a travel certificate to fly anywhere round-trip in the United States!  Two teammates helped him pull a 1-2-3 sweep: Kyle Price (34:39) and Jon Lindenauer (35:13).

Diana Stavrou ran the Percy Sutton 5k in New York City this weekend in 25:27.  We understand it's a tough course, so gooooo Diana!

The aGSTC Gold Star

                                 James Rivers

James chose running as a sport at the end of 8th grade when a friend of his recommended it to him at the end of high school.  It was a completely random decision and he never looked back.
By joining the Garden State Track Club he hopes to continue his running career in a friendly and competitive environment. He is very excited to see how far he can take his running career and hopes to surround himself with others who feel the same way.
If he could switch lives with anyone from either the past or present, it would have to be Jim Carrey. He loves all of his movies and they always put him in a better mood. He also enjoys making people laugh and being able to do that at the level he does would be awesome.
If he is not running you can usually find him working, studying, hanging out with some friends, reading, watching TV, or playing some video games.
