(8/18-8/24): Anis, Evangelist Win; Week Two of Uniform Contest Begins

THE WEEKLY EMAIL
Week 1 Down, 2 to Go: Win a Uniform Contest
They are here.  They are awesome.  You can buy any combination of singlet ($40), compression or split shorts ($40), warm-up jacket ($100), and/or warm-up pants ($50).  Below are the men's uniforms; the women's uniform looks identical, but cut differently (tights are shorter/smaller, the uniform back is cut differently).

Here is the women's uniform.  The logo will be placed on the chest, like the men's uniform, not the belly, as it's shown below.

OR, YOU CAN WIN ONE.

Here's how.

1.  Order a uniform through your team captain.  You received an email last week.

2.  Be a 2014 dues-paying member

3.  Post one picture of a run on the GSTC Facebook group page.

At the end of August, we will announce the two winners.

Here are week one entries!  Post this week to enter!

Team Social Outing

On August 28th a few of the GSTCers and I will be heading out to the Lakewood Blueclaws game at 7:05 pm. We plan on getting the lawn seats (only $8) and enjoying a nice night of baseball with some running friends. It is also $1 beer and 50 cent (not the rapper) wing night at the game. So bring some friends or family and lets have a fun night out as a team.  Email Dan at dteichs19@yahoo.com for more information!

Cheyenne's Tip of the Week

Kyle's Korner

In February of 2012, Zak (kneeling) teamed up with Mark Parisen (far left, track co-captain) and Reggie James (far right, hired as Holy Family University Head Track and Field coach this week) to break the club 4x800 record.

Kyle's Korner is a segment of the Club's weekly email that will focus on reacquainting you with a different current club member each week. We will catch you up on how they are doing with regards to their training, their lives, and other general nonsense. This segment intends to be informative and educational while attempting humor in a purely inoffensive way. Mostly.

This week on Kyle's Korner after interviewing the North and South of our great state I decided to get some perspective from the authority on all things Central Jersey, the one and only Zak Martins.

Kyle: Hello Zak!

Mr. Martins: Hello Sir!

Kyle: How's life in the Central Enclave?

Mr. Martins: You mean the fun enclave? It's pretty sweet! It's always a fun time in CJ!

Kyle: Is that why the boys out at Ohio State refer to you as Mayhem Martins?

Mr. Martins: Oh boy. I actually don't know why they call me that? Probably because I'm proud of being from the best state ever!

Kyle: So no crazy stories from your first year as a Buckeye?

Mr. Martins: To be honest no, not really. I had a psycho roommate who sang Beyonce in the shower everyday but that's kinda it. But hopefully this year I can come back with some good stories. Well, better than Chuck's RU stories at least.

Kyle: That's a little disappointing but I like the call out at the end. So how has your summer gone training wise?

Mr. Martins: Yeah it is. It's been great so far!! I hit 80miles for the first time ever a couple weeks back and felt great during it! I've actually been running so much that my friends from home now refer to running as "Zmarting".

Kyle: That's not exactly what I would think of if I heard someone use the term Zmarting but hey clearly you've earned some respect out of those high mileage weeks you're putting out. So you ready for your XC season? What are your goals?

Mr. Martins: HA! Yeah that's true but most of my friends from home aren't runners so they make fun of me for running. Then I beat them at whatever sports we play because I'm faster than them all. I'm actually pretty jazzed about this upcoming season, even if most of it will be in the cornfields of the Midwest. I guess my main goal is to come back and make the nationals team for Lehigh first, then it would be to (finally) break 16 in a 5k. Finally it's to beat down Chuckles since that's like 4 years overdue or to be OSURC's #1 guy at Club Nats, which I expect to see the RU team there... cough cough Fett/Klink cough.

Kyle: Sounds more like a bucket list then a set or goals but I'm sure you can get it done if you work as hard on your training as you do in the classroom. Got any ideas for a good race to get under that 16 barrier at?

Mr Martins: Hmm not sure where yet, but the good thing about Columbus is that it's super flat so maybe I'll do a local 5k or something and have someone pace me.

Kyle: I'm a huge fan of the rabbit approach. If you can't find someone before winter break I'll have my people set a date with your people and we'll work it out. One last item before we close, what is your favorite movie and why?

Mr. Martins: Ok! You can call my secretary to set it all up. Maybe I'll pull some sponsors nd have Flotrack air it live. After all I am the Lebron James of running according to Chuck.

That's a hard question for me. But I'm going with the Lion King. It's by far the best Disney movie and the first movie I ever saw as a kid. It has a lot of sentimental value to me as well so it carries weight to it.

Kyle: Yes but now he's off your team and back home so you're going to need a new idol.

And that is definitely one of the best of the classics. I hope the sentimentality isn't from eating bugs. Well that's all the time we have this week, thanks for talking with us!

Mr. Martins: Ugh don't remind me haha. Thanks man! It was my pleasure.

Kyle: Log on next week to see who we interview!

aGSTC TRIVIA TIME

So let's see how well you know them!

FEATURED TEAM EVENT THIS WEEK: Sunday Run at Washington's Crossing
Washington's Crossing is one of the most scenic and beautiful places to run in New Jersey.  And....this Sunday.....we are meeting there, at 9am, to run.  Contact your Enclave or Team Captains with questions!

Here's the address: 355 Washington Crossing Pennington Rd, Titusville, NJ 08560

RACE RESULTS

While racing in the summer is usually not ideal for many reasons, we understand many get restless and wanna just get out there and have some fun.  That said, we have two fun results from this weekend, and if you ever race...please send us your results!!!

Anis Wins, Qualifies for Boston

For the second year in a row, Mike Anis won the Chasing the Unicorn marathon with a Boston Marathon-qualifying time.

Averaging 6:04 a mile, Anis finished in 2:38:57, winning by about 2:30 over Rafer Dannenhauer of Shutesbury, MA.

The bearded man from Edison defended his title from last year on a course that is out-and-back and out-and-back on the soft surface of the canal tow path.

It sounded like he drank a lot of beer afterward.

Evangelist Wins 5k

Robyn Evangist, despite still in her base-building summer phase of training, won the 5k for Crohns/Colitis with her family.  The proud South Enclave speedster hit the tape in 18:40...a great sign for a great fall to come.

She is the second to the rightas it appears the Evangelists are preparing more for a Grateful Dead concert than a 5k road race!

Quotes of the Week

"Coaching is one thing and one thing only: It is creating an environment so the player has an opportunity to be successful."  -
Chip Kelley, Eagles head football coach, and former Oregon Ducks Head coach.  Ken Goglas sent this one in, and reading this article is worth the experience.

Quotes from Earlier This Summer We Saved, but Forget, Then Found Again

"The North will rise again."  -Francis Garcia, via Facebook in North Enclave page

"That heat was getting to me on that hour run earlier.  I was about to stop but then I seen somebody's grandpa running across the street from me.  I gave him the thumb's up and he yelled across the street 'keep up the good work and finish.'  All it took were some words and seeing him run to give me a lil push.  Sometimes in life we just need a little push or to give someone that lil push."  -Jaris Rousseau, pontificating after a run in always-friendly Paterson

"I love when cougars cat-call me."  -Josh Rockland, via FB, responding to some GSTC ladies complaining about inappropriate comments from nearby drivers

"I sometimes order the Big Mac without the Mac.  Just extra big."  -Chris Schneider, a potential heir to the Tim Morgan throne, reflecting on Mike Anis' comment about McDonalds

"Champions behave like champions before they are champions"  -Bill Walsh, former SF 49er coach, from a quote we saw on FB weeks ago.

"2015, race gets new name, "Unicorn Caught, Chasing the Anis."  -GSTC sprint coach Mark Parisen, via Facebook, chiming in on the team celebratory comments to Dr. A

"U Can't Touch That"  -Josh Neyhart, responding to someone's question "Mike Anis, why is there a 'U' next to your name in the results?".

"I won't challenge you to drop a bucket of cold ice but will challenge you to do a 5 miler this morning!"  -Sara Diaz-Mayo, via FB
