New Jersey Marathon Weekend
Perhaps it is no surprise that the GSTC totally rocked the baggage check yesterday at the NJ Marathon. Not an easy task with 10,000 runners, but hey--would you expect anything less from the Gold and Black?

It was a very early morning, a starting time that we will not mention publicly, but thank you to our 40 helpers who raised $2,000 for the club.  They will split this evenly as the club will put this toward race entry fees, etc.  Much love to Perryn Lord, Matt Mindur, Tony Harris, Mark Parisen, Danielle Stanton, Courtney Stanton, Meghan DeCarlo, Ricardo Garcia, Tim Morgan, Jaris Rousseau, Norbert Kuter, Ken Walsh Sarah Fairbrook, Curtis Scafe, TJ Zablocki, Jill Zablocki, Cathy Stuzman, Erika Meling, Joe LaFleur. Kaseem Jackson, Shanna Beairsto, Rob Nihen, Steve Mennitt, Nicole Callaghan, Edsel Flores, Adin Mickle, Nick Waclawksi, Dave Fett, Woody Kongsamut, Sarah Schillaci, Erin Higgins, Brianne Teichmann, James Lothian, Darnell Armstrong, Michele Tuchol, Sean Kelly, Carson Keers-Flood, and Cheyenne Ogletree.

Weekend Results
Matszak Breaks GSTC 10 Mile Record
Philadelphia- In Philly's famous Broad Street Run, Paul Matuszak broke Ashwin Anantharaman's ten miler club record yesterday from December 10, 2011.  He ripped a 51:11 for ten miles, averaging 5:07 pace, which was good for 20th overall and 9th in his age group.  Yeah...this is kind of a competitive race.  Jay Margolis also ran a PR, despite coming off the Boston Marathon, as he ran 60:12, or 6:01 a mile, good for 37th in his age group.

Animal Shelter 5k: Two GSTC Golds
West Milford- Three GSTC'ers rocked out at the hilly AS 5k, and the results were impressive!  Marty Doherty won the race in 18:28, and Alyssa Douma won the women's race in 18:52.  Don Weise won the 50-54 age group in 21:02, making him 2nd in the age graded masters- as Doherty was first.

NJ Marathon: GSTC Runs Wild Down the Shore
Long Branch- Several members ran very well during a perfect race day down the Jersey beach.  In the full marathon, Steve Comanto was 5th overall in 2:41:15, Adam Nalven had a PR of 3:03:13, Brian Harris ran 3:17:29,and Kati Petrikonis  finished her first in 4:42:50.  In the half, both Prudence Jones 2:10:28 and Ana Garcia 2:42:43 had personal bests.

Applechase 10k
Pompton Plains- Masters Fran Beideman and Pete Auteri finished in 45:32 and 46:28, respectively, in the Applechase 10k this weekend.  Fran was 20th overall and 2nd in his age group; Peter was 25th overall and 3rd in his age group!

Jack Bristol Lake Waramaug Race
New Preston, CT- Jill and TJ Zablocki competed in this 50k ultra marathon on April 21.  Yeah, you know the GSTC media: always on top of breaking news as it happens!

Jill was 3rd overall running 4:56:32 in the 50k race, averaging 9:34 for 31 miles.
TJ raced the 50 miler in 7:33:08, PRing by 75 minutes and finishing 4th overall.

Results with splits are here as well as a history of the race:

The Coke Classic 10k
Corinth, Mississippi- We applaud masters runner Jeff Blough for deciding to run this race, since there really isn't anything else to do when visiting this state.  In the great city of Corinth, wherever the $%^& that is, Jeff ran 56:59--a grand improvement from his last race.  Being that soda is about the worst thing a runner/athlete could imbibe, we just had to really investigate into this claim: does Coca Cola REALLY sponsor a footrace in the middle of Mississippi?  The answer is a resounding YES.

Steady Striders and Couch to 5k by Amy Denholtz Congrats to Steady Striders member Prudence Jones for running the NJ Half Marathon in Long Branch, and Phoebe Law for running the Rutgers Color Run!  This weekend the Steady Striders and Couch to 5k runners will be racing the Newport 10,000 on Saturday and running with the GST.  Team this Sunday, May 12th, at the Princeton towpath.  All paces and distances are welcome!

NJ Marathon Expo Recap and thanks to our volunteers!  A special thanks to our NJ Marathon Expo volunteers for their dedication to greeting thousands of runners and promoting the club and the College Ave Mile over two days.  Thank you Chuck Schneekloth, Sarah Fairbrook, Erin Blum, Brian Harris, Chelsea Callan, and Amy Denholtz for all your help!

Gold Star: Recognizing Team Members
Stephen Comanto
Stephen joined GSTC in January 2013 due to the constant efforts of teammate Robert DeCarlo. Rob ran the NJ marathon this weekend in a mind boggling time of 2:41:13 good enough for 5th place. Before races he has 2 meals before race time with one being cheerios and honey 2.5 hours before the race and nutella sandwich on whole wheat break an hour before the race. He then goes for a nice warmup and stretches out real well focusing on his IT band. Outside of running he teaches Pre-Calculus at Don Bosco Prep. He is a huge Rangers fan often goes to games with his dad. I'm sure Ranger fans remember this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QxGv0H_mo4. He is backpacking through Europe this summer and claims he will be running with the Bulls. Prs include his marathon time of 2:41:13 but his goal is to get into the 2:30 range.

Gingi Brooks
Gingi joined GSTC April 18th,2013 because she knew the value of being fit and finds it as a good stress reliever which we all know it is. Before races she likes to pack the night before, know the course, competition, and come up with a great game plan in order to run fast. Her goal right now is to finish any race in personal best time and apparently is a very versatile runner. She holds the Pompton Lakes record for 110 hurdles but also runs Cross Country, the 100,200,400, 400 hurdles and 800. In high school she was so dominant in the 800 that she had to train with the guys team!!!! She also was a state championship Cross Country runner and loves getting faster and faster. Outside of running her hobbies include singing gospel choir, Zumba dancing, playing basketball with her oldest son and spending time with family/friends. It is obvious Gingi is a great addition to our team.
