RESULTS OF
QUARANTINE GAMES 5K

Women Edged by 2 Points

The open women had a terrific day of racing on October 10th, but they sadly fell just two points short of the Georgetown Running Club, 46-48.

Leading the way were three members of the GSTC's Junior Elite Program: Charlotte Bednar (16:25), Camryn Wennersten (17:13), and Miranda Lorsbach (17:36).

Emily Rosario, pictured above, ran 18:06 to finish as the #4 runner with Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier Alexandra Niles running 18:13 to round out the top 5.

M40s Nipped by West Valley TC; Series Now Tied at 1-1

When the original scores were tallied, it appeared GSTC's M40's team, the 2018 and 2019 USATF M40s Grand Prix National Champions, had extended their lead 2-0 over West Coast powerhouse West Valley Track Club, based in San Francisco, CA.  But an after-hours submission by WVTC put them over the to;, thus evening out the series 1-1 with a 32-42 score.

Duncan Nysinga ran a gutsy one for the squad as he won the Thomas Edison race in 15:11, a new club M40s record.  Kevin Shirk was the #2 finisher, and #5 overall, with a 16:14.  From there, the squad packed in five guys from 11th to 15th place: Dave Ferruggia (16:37), Shawn Williams (16:48), Elliott Frieder (16:49), Jason Timochko (16:58), and Marco Cardoso (17:00).

W40s Win Team Gold Again

The GSTC W40s team continued their two year winning streak with a close win over Boulder Track Club.

The squad was, once again, led by Elena Rozhko (second to left) with a speedy 18:25.  Jen Martin (third from right) was the #2 finisher with a 19:36, and Heather McDermott (third from left) ran 20:16 to round out the scoring three.

Open Men Settle for Third

With GRC averaging 14:37 for their top five runners, the battle was for second place.  And, unfortunately, the open men finished just ten points, or really a few seconds, behind Boulder TC to settle for third overall.

In their club debuts, Ben Godish (15:10) and Ben Finnigan (15:14) paced the squad with a 10th and 11th overall finish, respectively.

Rounding out the top five were Sean Donohue (15:25), GSTC Hall of Famer Jeff Perrella (15:27), and Stephen Rathbun (15:32).

The GSTC finished with four complete teams, the most of any club participating in the Quarantine Games.

M50s Finish Second

Things will change quite quickly for the 50s team in a few weeks when the Frieder twins turn 50, but for now, with a few injuries, they once again lost to West Valley TC.

Todd Wiley ran another impressive solo race with his 17:02 with Mark Zamek, at age 56, just a few steps behind him in 17:07.  John Hogan (17:45), Steven Segaloff (17:53), and David Lacouture (19:02).

Segaloff was named Athlete of the Week as he broke 18:00 for the first time in his life...at age 50!

Columbus Defeats Bias in 500m Dash

That's really all you need to know about that.  James Bias went out hot, and Mike Columbus came back even hotter.

Van Etten Drops Huge 3k

Will Van Etten continued his impressive fall season with a convincing win in the youth 3k.  The eleven year old ran 10:18.88 for the 3k, just one second off the state record set by Craig Forys.  Will's time equates to about an 11:03 for 3200m...in the fifth grade.

Michael Devine (10:29) and Max Kahn (11:03) rounded out the top three boys, and the girls medalists were Katherine Shaw (11:44), Prisha Kulawade (11:46), and Cayleigh Kaiser (11:50).

There are currently twelve teams from around the USA competing in the Quarantine Games with us:

West Valley TC and Cal Coast (CA), Boulder TC (CO), Kansas City Smoke (MO), Red Cedar RC (MI), Atlanta TC (GA), Georgetown RC (DC), Garden State TC (NJ), Bowerman TC (OR), Jamul Toads (CA), and Genesee Valley Harriers (NY)
