(9/29-10/5): This Week- A New Era Begins

THE WEEKLY EMAIL
A New Era Begins This Week
In its first year in 2011, the adidas Garden State Track Club used Asics uniforms.  A year later, it began a three-year relationship with Phenetix, a start-up company in Atlanta started by a former Georgia Tech quarter miler.  This week, after much suspense, the adidas era finally begins.

Not only will the first order of adidas uniforms arrive this week for elites and club leaders, they will be worn for the first time this Saturday morning, at Lehigh University, at the Paul Short Invitational.

With this new era beginning, an old one comes to a close.  That said, we celebrate the last two weeks of gold uniforms below, as many great performances occurred during these final moments of this final chapter of the club.

All that said, let's meet three new players of this new era of our club!

Kevin Kelly
adidas rep for aGSTC
Taking over for Dan Boillon is Kevin Kelly.  Based out of Philly, Kevin was just hired in August after serving in a similar role in a running hydration accessory company.

Similar to the role Dan played, Kevin will be the liaison between the club and the adidas brand.

Although super humble about his achievements, Kevin was the starting kicker for Penn State for four years.  He won't ever tell you this, but some research reveals he is currently the Big 10 and Penn State all-time scorer.  We're excited he's kicking field goals now for adidas and the aGSTC!

Sneaker Factory
Florham Park: Joe Jacobs, Manager

For all the northern and central Jersey folks, this is where to go for your adidas gear.  Along with picking up your ordered uniforms here, this is also where you can get 20% off any adidas apparel.

Opened in January of 2014, they carry five models of adidas footwear and play hist to all kinds of events, such as groups runs on Mondays and Wednesday (6:45pm) and talks by professional athletes Alan Webb and Robby Andrews.  We encourage all aGSTC members to pop in, say hello, and grab some adidas gear sooner than later!  We hope he'll have our uniforms before the 10/26 XC race!

Manager Joe Jacobs, a Jersey native, is a former Butler HS and UNC-Greensboro standout who, upon graduation, spent time as a Mizuno and Saucony rep before opening up his own store months ago.  His wife, Laura, coaches at Kinnelon HS while his young son, Miles, is a projected Meet of Champions winner in 2030...or so says Joe!

Two customers at the Metuchen store.
         Runner's High
  Metuchen: Rob DeFillipis, Manager

Runner's High is where central and southern GSTC'ers will be going to pick up their uniforms and get their 20% discount on adidas gear.

With stores in Freehold and Metuchen, the latter is where uniforms will be in a few weeks for pickup!

Manager Rob is a former University of Maryland standout in both cross country and track.  Also, the head coach at Red Bank Catholic High School, he coached a 4x800 that captured the indoor national title in 2011.  He's run 31:40 and 15:03 in the 10k and 5k, respectively, with a 2:41 PR in the marathon.

Kyle's Korner

Kyle's Korner is a segment of the Club's weekly email that will focus on reacquainting you with a different current club member each week. We will catch you up on how they are doing with regards to their training, their lives, and other general nonsense. This segment intends to be informative and educational while attempting humor in a purely inoffensive way. Mostly.

This week on Kyle's Korner we interview the dapper male half of Team Teichmann. Dan has been a front-runner in the Rutgers end of recruiting for the club and is known to pop up at many a variety of team events and functions and always bring the charm, positive atmosphere, and occasionally his sister Brianne with him. They may not be actual twins but they do seem a bit inseparable as of late. Though with the thought of being apart of that awesome running pair who could blame them?

Dan with sister Bri at Saturday's Oktoberfest 10k hoisted by Superhero Events.

Kyle: Afternoon Dan, thanks for joining us!

Mr. Teichmann: You're welcome, glad to be here.

Kyle: How goes life as a member of the Teichmann clan?

Mr. Teichmann: It's great having another member of the family that participates in the club. We can lean on each other to train with and drag each other out the door, and the same goes for races, especially ones where we can pair up as a team for a relay.

Kyle: Aah the famous Team Teichmann Road Relays Duo. I hear you two are also relocating together.

Mr. Teichmann: Yes we will be moving up to Hoboken on Tuesday.

Kyle: You've got to be excited about that.

Mr. Teichmann: Yeah, I can't wait to get up there and explore the area. Brianne has been visiting the area for a few years and showed me a few funs spots, but I'm real excited to get up there and start getting to know the area better myself.

Kyle: I know an adorable interviewer that would love to be taken on a tour. Now speaking of your sister, for the members of the club that don't know, which of you is older?

Mr. Teichmann: Brianne is older than me by 3 years although we have been asked about being twins a few times, this myth is finally busted.

Kyle: Yes now everyone knows BECAUSE EVERYONE READS MY INTERVIEWS RIGHT? RIIIGHT?

How was having a big sister growing up? I would assume you two were very close since you still are today.

Mr. Teichmann: Honestly, when we were kids and even throughout high school Bri and I never really got along too well. When I finally started to mature I realized it was important to get along with her more and we started doing more things together and really started to finally hit it off. Now we're closer than ever and do numerous activities together including running, going to music concerts/festivals and going to sports events.

Kyle: So it took you about 18 years to realize your big sister could be as much fun as a big brother?

Mr. Teichmann: Exactly.

Kyle: That's a wonderful revelation to have.

How is your training going?

Mr. Teichmann: It's been improving recently. I was studying over the summer for my CPA exams and didn't train too much and now transitioning into a new job and the move has set me back even more. Recently I have clicked with the Morristown group and have been working runs into my schedule to help get myself back in shape.

Kyle: All of that is understandably difficult to work around but it's good to hear you stuck with it and now seem to have a grove worked out. Any goals in the near future?

Mr. Teichmann: I'd like to PR in the Big Chill 5k this year, so sub 16:40 which I think is doable, it gives me time to get into good shape and is a fairly flat course.

Kyle: Hey you do that a couple weeks earlier and you've got a chance at Lehigh. The Big Chill is a great race though. I've got a small collection of those polar bear t-shirts ha. Any thoughts toward your track season?

Mr. Teichmann: Track season.. I really haven't given that too much thought yet to be honest. I've always been a fan of the 5k on the track and steeplechase though so maybe I'll try to get into those.

Kyle: 5ks on the track are a little boring for my taste but I do like being able to go fast in them. Now steeple, that's where it's at! A new favorite for myself. No more attempts at race-walking after your famous Track Nationals debut?

Mr. Teichmann: No I don't think I could ever go back to that it killed my shins.

Kyle: You looked damn good doing it though.

Mr. Teichmann: Haha thanks.

Kyle: So how's the work side of life?

Mr. Teichmann: It's not too bad, working in audit can get pretty hectic, but for now it's not that busy.

Kyle: The nice post-tax season ease of workload?

Mr. Teichmann: Haha exactly.

Kyle: Well I'm sure you'll be able to fuel your relaxation time quite well in Hoboken.

Mr. Teichmann: Yessir, definitely.

Kyle: I'll have to set up an on location follow up interview.

Well hey that's all the time we have for this week. Thank you for speaking with us.

Mr. Teichmann: Haha no problem man.

Kyle: Tune in next week to see who we interview!

Dos Santos, Auteri Go 1-2

Bloomingdale- David dos Santos, dusting off his racing flats after several years, won the Bob Kochka 5k this weekend in 19:18.  It's always nice to get a win, but his girlfriend was dangerously close behind him, in second place, in 19:41.  Katie Castro also ran, finishing 6th overall in 22:02.

Goglas, Ogletree Win at Steeplechase

Hillsborough- To finish out his USATF-NJ Grand Prix scorecard, Ken Goglas needed a 500 point 5k and 500 point 10k.  So, why not do them on the same day...just nine minutes apart?

Like he did last year, Goglas won the Steeplechase 10k at 8:45am, and nine minutes after finishing, at 9:30 am, began the 5k race and won that, too.  Not a bad day at the office.  He ran 34:07 for the first race, and then 16:59.99 in the second one.  Nice.

Cheyenne Ogeltree also won the women's 5k in 18:13, while Tom Visicaro was second in the 5k in 17:11.

Warren Rolls 15:10 at CVS

Providence, RI: Chris Warren, club record holder for 5,000m on the track at 14:32, opened up his fall season with a 15:10 at the CVS 5k, the USATF National Championships 5k for 2014.  He battled all the elite women throughout the race, thus providing the aGSTC some fantastic media exposure, and eventually defeated them all, as he out leaned women's champion Molly Huddle at the finish line.

Warren's time lands him #10 on the all-time club list, below.

The aGSTC Gold Star

by Ashwin Anantharaman

                                              Steven Olin-Dombrowski

Steven heard about GSTC from Will "The Thrill" Appman who he met during a workout at the track at Waterfront Park in Weehawken. His number one goal is to beat all of his PRs! He loves running all distance and knows that he has a lot of PRs to go for. Currently he is training to break 6 minutes in the mile and recently completed the 5th Ave mile in 6:22. Once he breaks 6 he hopes to go under 20 in the 5k. His best PRs are 1:58:03 in the Brooklyn Half and 4:55:29 in the Philly marathon in 2012! If he could rule the world for one day he would enforce the rule harsher punishments for parole violators and world peace! After his attempts to rule the world failed....he decided to run, dabble in art and is a bowler with a high score or 247.
