| | Cheyenne's Thought of the Week Kyle's Korner Kyle's Korner is a segment of the Club's weekly email that will focus on reacquainting you with a different current club member each week. We will catch you up on how they are doing with regards to their training, their lives, and other general nonsense. This segment intends to be informative and educational while attempting humor in a purely inoffensive way. Mostly.
This week on Kyle's Korner we spoke with the always charming Mike Fonder. He's a fan of high mileage, high level races, and high levels of comedy. Anything to be High. Kyle: Good evening Mike, thanks for joining us! Mr. Fonder: My pleasure, Mr Price! It's great to be here. Kyle: Yes this is a very scenic email! So to start off how has your summer been? You had an amazing Spring Track season that started off with that kick butt Penn Relays 5K and it finished off with a very strong President's Cup race next to yours truly, but what have you done since then? Mr. Fonder: I just kept on running! No races, but a lot of miles. I had some great training weeks in July with my MPW ramping up as high as 151 one week. Kyle: You might want to speak with Passages Malibu about that mileage addiction. I don't think I know any marathon trainers that get that high in a week. PHRASING! Well naturally the next question would be what is all of this work geared towards? Mr. Fonder: Well in the long term I would like to run another marathon and drop a big PR. However, short term I'm looking forward to this upcoming cross country season and making the squad for Club Nationals in December. Kyle: I think you are well on your way to both those goals. Any marathons in mind? Mr. Fonder: I've considered running Philly this year, but most likely I'll probably wait until fall of next year to run it. Kyle: Philly is a fast one but no reason to rush into a marathon. Why the choice to run such high miles? Mr. Fonder: Two parts science, one part crazy. Everyone responds differently to training. I find I benefit greatly from high mileage. It's also great training for my long term marathon plan, and what can I say at the end of the day I just love to run! Kyle: I think I'm more two parts crazy, one part experimentation. Well yes I certainly agree with everyone being different. If you're Mr High Mileage and it works then that's awesome! I heard that you recently had quite an achievement in a much shorter race though against our fearless leader. Mr. Fonder: You are correct, sir. However it wasn't quite in the same race. After ten years of being in hiding of any race shorter than a mile I broke out my old spikes to race an 800m on the track. I had run a 2-flat in HS back in 2004 and was determined to finally get under that two minute barrier. I had also heard that said leader, Mr Schneekloth, had run a 2:02 a couple of weeks earlier. This helped inspire my 1:59 effort this past Spring. Kyle: The quintessential Cinderella Story right there. That's a great achievement to be able to come back and get a PR in an event you haven't attempted in such a long time. Inspirational stuff. And of course beating Chuckles is always a grand bonus. Now down to the nitty gritty. Who is your favorite actor and why? Mr. Fonder: Hmmm... I don't know that I have a favorite per se, but I pretty much love any comedies starring Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn or Jonah Hill. I'm also a fan of all GoPro videos featuring Chris Johnson falling and doing push-ups. Kyle: Ahhh yes a favorite moment in film amongst many. And it is very hard to believe that those three comedians have never been in a movie together. Mr. Fonder: Indeed it is. If they ever were in a film together I would finally feel justified paying the $11.50 per movie ticket. Kyle: Highway Robbery. Well hey that's all the time we have for this week, thank you for speaking with us! Mr. Fonder: Anytime! Thanks for having me in your corner, Kyle. Kyle: Oh you're always welcome in my Korner. Tune in next week to see who we interview!

RACE RESULTS | Diana Angi earlier in the spring | Two ladies ran the Run the Reservoir Half Marathon this weekend in Westwood, as Diana Angi (1:59:38) and Jess Byrnes (1:42:31) both ran well... ...Erin Blum completed her first triathlon in twenty years, winning her age group and finishing 8th overall out of 800 women at the Iron Girl Sandy Hook tri. Her favorite part, she says, was "the cold chocolate milk at the finish line." | The ever-reliable Peter Auteri racing XC in 2013 | Two weeks ago, a big group ran the Pompton Lakes 5k in the blistering heat and humidity. Peter Auteri led the group with a 21:41, finishing 2nd in his AG. Dave Donza came in at 23:00, good for fourth in his AG, while Fran Beideman was also 4th in his age group with a 23:15 finish. Gary Anolik rounded out the group with a 31:28 time. The aGSTC Gold Star by Brianne Teichmann Kim Wernerspach Kim is one of the newest ladies to join the Gold and Black. Currently she works at Aeropostale, but recently graduated with a degree in Psychology and is on the hunt for psych-related jobs. Kim was the captain of the cross country team at ESU and qualified for D2 XC nationals and placed 74th, which for her was an awesome experience. Kim's PRs include: 2:16 for the 800; 4:40 for the 1500; 5:06 for the 1600; 10:05 for the 3,000m (indoor); 17:41 5k; 21:03 6k (XC). Kim's looking to lower her PRs and help the GSTC score some points! She can run anywhere in the Bridgewater, Hillsborough, and Flemington areas and is definitely interested in running buddies!! If this sounds like somewhere you run, definitely look out for Kim in the GSTC Facebook groups! Welcome aboard, Kim!!! TMA: Totally Misunderstood Award Steve Mennitt once again makes a splash, as he--by many accounts--nearly sat on and squished Tony Harris' newborn child on the couch last weekend. His explanation? "I thought it was a doll...." ...she tried to sneak away without anyone knowing, but Erin LaCosta had a sweet grand exit as she left the long run on Sunday, backing up into a large boulder with her dad's car... However, the best story comes from new member Steve Olin, who emailed us, in passing, "Yesterday morning I raced in the Tour de Fort Lee Criterium... I really should have done more research before entering my first ever bike race... I ended up basically in a league of my own being the only person with regular sneakers and a single speed bike haha!! I had a blast though and received a lot of attention and support!!"
