Spring Club Results
It's cold, it's early, but that doesn't stop GSTC'ers!

Cafferty Drops Big 5k PR of 24:25
Megan Cafferty ran a yuuuge 5k PR weeks ago at the Princeton Cupid's Chase 5k, finishing in 24:25.  She won her age group, medal above, with an incredible PR of 2:30.  Wow!

GSTC'ers Huddle at the Pre-Game 4 Miler

Several club members enjoyed the long-standing Super Bowl tradition of running a race before stuffing your face, and the Pre Game 4 Miler is the most popular race in NJ for this.    Sarah Schillaci was third women in 26:09, while Karl and Aya Leitz (27:34), Anne Balfour (28:01), Kristina Petillo (30:21),  Patrick Crowley (34:27), Rachel Wiegers (34:57), and Prudence Jones (44:12) all enjoyed the race put on by GSTC member Heather McDermott's Superhero Events.

Lemme Father-Daughter Combo Win 5k
Jackie Lemme, shown above in a cross country race last fall, won the freezing cold Mt. Holly St. Patrick's Day 5k in 20:28.  Impressive, for sure.  But how about this: her 51-year old father, Kent, won the mens race in 16:45.  Wow!  Masters captain Erin Varga also ran, winning her age group in a solid season opener of 23:30.

The Leitzes Race in NYC
Aya and Karl Leitz participated in the Cherry Tree 10 Miler in Prospect Park, Brooklyn weeks ago.  Aya finished first in her new 40-44 age group with a nifty 71:56, while Karl was 7th in his age group with a 78:53.

GSTC Races Frigid R&R in DC
Wes Cole and Amy Williams (above, with GSTC gear and family) battled the frigid conditions this morning at the DC Rock and Roll.  Cole finished the marathon in 3:13:20, while Williams did the half in 1:35:30.

Run O' the Mill Results
Three masters ran the Run O' the Mill 5k today: newcomer Cathy Mersereau (22:28), Jeff Donlon (23:21), and Ellen Patterson (25:36, shown above at Ashenfelter 8k).

Two Race Washington Heights 5k
Diana Stavrou ran this race in the freezing cold and very much pregnant in 30:11.  Seen here after the Gridiron 4 Miler with her sweet GSTC hat, please reconsider your next excuse for not running a race!  Teammate and newcomer Andrea Chassot Agosthino ran 33:57, as well.

Leitzes Just Keep on Running
Karl and Aya Leitz ran the
NYPD vs FDNY 5 Miler in Central Park.
Aya ran 35:11 and was 1st in her civilian division age group, while Karl was 36:39 and 3rd in his civilian age group.

Five Run St. Paddy's Race in M-Town
Five ladies braved the brutal cold of the St. Paddy's 5k Run up in Morristown today.  Sarah Schillaci won in 19:15, while teammates Jessica Byrnes (21:13), Anne Balfour (21:30, 1st masters; seen above), Meg Cafferty (24:30), and Sue Lawlor (32:30) all also ran well.

Timochko Becomes a Frozen Penguin
Masters runner Jason Timochko finished 9th in the Frozen Penguin Half Marathon on March 11, running 1:24:09.  Sadly enough, he almost turned into a frozen penguin at mile 11 due to some nasty headwind.  Ouch.  Way to hang in there!

Aya Runs Tokyo Marathon
Aya Leitz ran the Tokyo Marathon earlier this month, as she is seen her in front of the Tokyo Tower.  She ran 3:23:59 in her home country of Japan.

Viola, Wallis Win Jade Run 5k
Rutgers medical student Adrienne Viola and her homie, Stephen Wallis, shown here with Princeton Enclave captain Erika Meling (center) last year, both won the Jade Run 5k last week.  Steve won with a fine, early-March time of 16:10, but his boo outshined him a bit, rolling to a twenty-second PR.  She ran 18:27, or 5:56 a mile.

Knowles Competes at
US Master's XC Championships
On February 4th, masters Thom Knowles competed in the 2017 USATF Masters XC National Championships in Bend, Oregon; this was the same course as the 2013 USATF Club Xc National Championships.  As the above pictures show, the course was no sunny walk in the park, as the Princeton alum was able to finish 19th overall, and 12th in his age group.

WOW!
Women Break Millrose Games 4x200 Record

Jessie Gaines, Miki Barber, Lisa Barber, and Mariah Toussaint highlighted GSTC action at the 110th running of the historic Millrose Games.  They teamed up to dominate the club 4x200 in 1:37.88, setting an big event record in the process.

The Barber twins both have Wold Championship gold medals in the 4x100, with Lisa owning an individual WC gold in the 60m.  Toussaint is the Monmouth University school record holder in the 200m, HJ, and LJ, and Gaines just finished 2nd in the USA Championships in the long jump.

Men DMR Repeat Title
For the second year in a row, the men's distance medley won the prestigious Millrose Games distance medley relay.  And this year, the club completely dominated the field, finishing 1st and 4th in the super competitive field of the best clubs on the East Coast, as the B Team barely got out-kicked for the bronze medal.

After the 1200m leg, the club was 2nd and 5th, as Josh Neyhart (3:03) and Kevin D'Emic (3:05) ran fine tactical races.  From there, Tyrone Ross blazed a 49.50 400m leg, putting the A Team in the lead they would never vanquish.  Sadkiki White dropped a 1:52.38 800m leg to extend the lead, and 2016 GSTC Most Valueable Performer Alfredo Santana cruised to a casual 4:10 anchor for the 9:56.03 win.

Sadiki White opens up the lead on the 800m leg

Mike Columbus PR'ed on the B Team 400m leg with a 50.56 split, and half miler Ricky Garcia ran a season best of 1:55.89.  Anchor Kyle Price ran the race of his life on the 1600m leg, as his 4:14.41 leg was an indoor PR as NYAC was able to hold him off.

Despite Injuries,
Men 4x200 4th at Millrose Games
Despite nagging indoor injuries, the aGSTC men's 4x200 finished 4th out of ten teams at the Millrose Games.  Ish Robbins, Laron Day, Elijah Suggs, and Charles Wolff finished second in their heat and fourth overall in 1:31.89.

Women DMR 6th at Millrose

Despite running in third for most of the race, the GSTC ladies DMR faded to 6th due to some seriously fast anchor legs.   Mired in the back after a 3:46 leadoff by Latosha Wallace(right), Marisa Turner (left) rolled a 56.47m 400m split, the fastest in the race, to move the club up to 4th place.   Half miler Kelsey Rose (2nd to right) then ran a brilliant third leg, splitting 2:18.18 to push the club into third.  Anchor Alyssa Douma ran a very tough race, yet was unable to hold off some national-caliber anchors including NYAC's Esther Erb, a former national champion marathoner.

Gaines, Barber, Smith
Shine at USA's
Jessie Gaines, in her third year with the GSTC, finished 2nd at the USA National Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico last weekend with a leap of 21-0.75.  Although she's been a national caliber jumper and hurdler for years, this is her highest finish at a USA Championship.  She also qualified and competed in the 60m hurdles, finishing 10th in 8.23.

The ageless wonder Miki Barber, 36 years young, finished 4th in the 60m dash in a blazing 7.21.  She was also fourth after the semi-finals.

Barber, in lane 6, on national television for the 60m final.

Amina Smith, who last month spoke at the GSTC banquet, finished 4th overall in the high jump with a 1.82m (5-11.5) leap.

Alfredo Santana, pictured above on national television, competed in the mile, and Sadiki White finished 14th in the 600m.

PRs & Gold Medals at Fastrack Last Chance
It's hard to capture every track meet in the team email, as there are dozens of athletes competing in dozens of events and, let's face it, the team email is already long enough.

However, the aGSTC crew had a great meet at the Ocean Breeze Fastrack Last Chance meet on February 25. Myriad athletes had indoor personal bests, including Mike Columbus (50.94), Dan Brodhead (1:59.17), Ryan DeGregorio (2:02.19), Josh Neyhart (4:11.43), Kyle Price (4:12.17), Edsel Flores (4:31.60), and Elijah Suggs (22.22).

Jessie Gaines (60mH, 8.42; 6.17m, LJ), Miki Barber (60m, 7.36), Kris Joint (TJ, 15.10m), and Sadiki White (800m, 1:51.19) won their respective events at the competitive collegiate meet.

Two 4x400 relays capped off a great evening, above, as the club finished 2nd (3:22) and 4th (3:33) in the meet's final event of the day.

Santana Drops 4:00 Mile in NYC

Alfredo Santana, voted by the GSTC membership as the Most Valuable Performer in 2016, ran 4:00.71 at the Fastrak National Invitational last month.  Not only did this qualify him for the USA Championships, it was also a club record and painfully close to breaking 4:00.  Above, he is seen being interviewed by Dave Alfano after running 4:01 last spring.

4xMile Finishes 3rd in WR Race

Agent Ray Flynn invited the adidas GSTC to compete in the world record attempt of the 4xMile following the club's win at the Millrose Games.  From left to right, Kevin D'Emic, Sean Stetler, Josh Neyhart and Tyler Melius finished an impressive third in 17:33.87.
