With more answers than Donald Trump on immigration. | | | The Fall Season is Here!
On Sunday, the USATF-NJ Grand Prix revs its engines with the first all-divisions race: the USATF-NJ 5k XC Championship at Natirar Park. The first fall team-scored race was the masters men's 5k championship this weekend (see below for result recap). Team races are scored on a 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale for the top ten open teams, and a similar structure for the masters team scoring. Cross country is weighted a bit more, as any five person team earns two points, regardless of performance, for their club.
If you're bored, or plan on spending a lot of time on the toilet some day, here are the complete set of rules for the USATF-NJ Club Grand Prix.
Let's take a quick look at current overall standings. The aGSTC, the two-time defending champion, is well on its way to a three-peat in 2015.

SCOREBOARD
#gold division
1. CENTRAL ENCLAVE (188 points) 13 (Week 1) + 32 (Week 2) + 48 (Week 3) + 19 (Week 4) + 36 (Week 5) + 40 (Week 6)
Not the biggest muscles out there, but the biggest point total. Can someone please give them a final-week challenge? Look at the cocky looks on their faces!
2. NORTH ENCLAVE (107 POINTS) 10 (Week 1) + 15 (Week 2) + 35 (Week 3) + 16 (Week 4) + 20 (Week 5) + 11 (Week 6) Similar to the Central Enclave, they aren't exactly any tickets to buy to any gun shows here either...but another solid performance from the North!
3. PRINCETON ENCLAVE (94 points) 9 (Week 1) + 21 (Week 2) + 45 (Week 3) + 8 (Week 4) + 5 (Week 5) + 6 (Week 6) The Princeton Enclave limps home in the contest, as they put up six more points as they continue coasting in third place. A furious final week could earn them a silver medal...but will it happen?
4. WILD WEST ENCLAVE (46 points) 10 (Week 1) + 0 (Week 2) + 13 (Week 3) + 13 (Week 4) + 0 (Week 5) + 10 (Week 6) The Wild West Enclave seems to be finishing strong, with a respectable ten points this week. Can they muster up a few more in the final week?
#black division
1. JERSEY CITY ENCLAVE (107 POINTS) 3 (Week 1) + 5 (Week 2) + 8 (Week 3) + 25 (Week 4) + 38 (Week 5) + 28 (Week 6) The Jersey City Enclave, not only are they dominating the Black Division, but they are tied with the North Enclave for second most points overall. Wowsers!!!!
2. MORRISTOWN ENCLAVE (41 points) 4 (Week 1) + 4 (Week 2) + 18 (Week 3) + 15 (Week 4) + 0 (Week 5) M-Town, once a favorite to win the Black Division, is now in real trouble here. Florham Park Enclave may make a hard push in the final week, as just five points separates the two. Be sure to watch the ESPN Sportscenter segment on this one. 3. FLORHAM PARK ENCLAVE (36 PTS) 2 (Week 1) + 0 (Week 2) + 14 (Week 3) + 0 (Week 4) + 10 (Week 5) + 10 (Week 6) Florham Park is the only enclave that moves, as they scratch their way up to third place. Not bad. Could be better...but not bad. at all.
4. SOUTH ENCLAVE (23 PTS) 3 (Week 1) + 2 (Week 2) + 10 (Week 3) + 0 (Week 4) + 8 (Week 5) + 0 (Week 6) The South had some runs...but posting no pictures cost them their third place spot on the podium. Can they regain it in the final week?
5. BEACH ENCLAVE (12 points) 2 (Week 1) + 2 (Week 2) + 0 (Week 3) + 0 (Week 4) + 8 (Week 5)+ 0 (Week 6) Whaaaaaaaaat the heck is going on here!??

Club Nationals 2015: San Francisco!!!! The Leadership Team met on Tuesday, July 7th, and agreed on the following items:
1. If an athlete hits the 82% PLP standard, they will receive a $300 stipend toward their flight.
2. Any athlete hitting the 82% PLP standard (for 5k this is 15:40 men; 17:57 women), the club will pay for lodging, entry fee, and van transportation there.
3. To qualify for this support, the athlete must run two of the six team races this fall.
4. Exceptions will be made, by the LT, on a case-by-case basis if two team races aren't met
5. Any athlete on the "A" or "B" team will receive lodging, van transportation, and meet entry support if they also meet the "two team race" standard
6. Anyone who "belongs in the race" (sub-20 women; sub-17 men) may go and run on an aGSTC team! The more the merrier! Last year we broke the USATF record with eleven scoring teams!!!

But we aim to please and keep innovating while doing so! Moving forward the staff at the Korner will be expanding its scope for interviews. We'll be on the kutting edge for giving post race interviews, follow-ups on big performances by club members, chatting with new recruits, and still keeping you updated on current members. USATF-NJ Grand Prix Has Started! Belmar- The USATF-NJ Grand Prix kicked off its fall season this past weekend with the Belmar Chase 5k, a masters' men road 5k championship race. Albeit too hot and too early for a championship race, the aGSTC masters men had a solid day at the office.
Nick Van Langen was the first man in, rolling through the finish line in 18:05. VanLangen had a very solid spring, a great summer of training, and looks very sharp early on this season. Captain Matt Baker, with a huge personal best, was the second man in 18:20. Will Parker, certainly confusing all the beach folks with his North Jersey hometown of Asbury, was third in 18:31. Steve Warren (18:42) and Eric Davis (19:30) rounded out the group's top five scoring members.
The B Team snuck in a point, finishing 10th overall in a competitive field of thirteen teams. Kenny Huryk was the top man in, coming in at 20:13. Brian Harris (20:20) was just behind him, with Lee Mooney (21:32) and Peter Auteri (21:50) in the 3-4 spots. John Bergacs was the team's final man in at 28:17.
The 50s team finished 9th overall, as Baker, Harris, Mooney, Auteri, and Bergacs compiled that scoring group.
All results can be found here.
Numerous other team members ran the race, a flat, fast, and hot course. Those included James Rivers (10th/ 16:07), Wismith Francois (16:43), Ryan DeGregorio (17:23), Chris Whitehead (18:06), Eddie Carvante (18:23), Matt Storms (18:42), and Lucinda Warren (23:30). Oh wait, one more.
Santana Runs 14:39; Breaks CR Alfredo Santana is now two for two, as the LaSalle alum broke his second club record in just his second race for the adidas GSTC. Going out with the leaders in a pedestrian 4:55 pace for the first two miles, he rolled an impressive 4:31 last mile to finish second in the star-studded field at the Belmar Chase. He now takes some down time before his build up to club cross country nationals in December!
EPPS COMPETES IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
While scratching in the first and third attempts, she jumped 13.36m in attempt two, which finished her 10th in her flight, and 24th out of 28 athletes overall.
Her PR, 14.09m when she won the USA title two months ago, would have finished 8th. A Message from the President The club has many bills to pay this summer to keep the lights on. If you haven't paid your years dues...please do so this week!

Garden State Triathlon Club Is almost ready to roll!
Peter's Puzzler Peter Bolgert is an esteemed member of the club who was on the DMR that won the club national title in 2013 for the aGSTC. A former Marquette standout in the steeplechase, he is now halfway through a PhD program in the plasma physics department at Princeton University. In hopes to raise the intellectual rigor to the club's weekly email, he designs weekly puzzlers to sharpen the wit, acumen, and intellect of the club...while wearing this onesey.
Guess the time!
Exactly how many minutes is it before six o'clock if 50 minutes ago it was four times as many minutes past three o'clock? Anis Angle Mike Anis is an aging cranky, albeit beloved and long-standing member of the club who takes great pride in his beard and his onesey. In full transparency, we should probably also add he's never been asked to write an angle. We just do it for him.
Wtf does this have to do with running?
Answer: 26 min. You can check that this is correct. 26 minutes before 6:00 is 5:34. 50 minutes before that is 4:44, which is 104=26*4 minutes after 3:00.
aGSTC Runs Check your Facebook Enclave group pages for regional group runs! They are happening often now!
Picture of the Week
| We swear. This is a new picture. He's still outside, a week later, trying to get satellites. |
TMA First, please don't ever ask Joe Jacobs to drive you anywhere. This is his idea of a good parking job on Monday morning! Yikes...another few feet and that sucker is down the cliff.
Second, Split Second Timing was far from it during Saturday's Belmar Chase. Sounds like there were serious delays in team scores and incorrect award winners during the awards ceremony.
Steady Striders Do you run 9-12 minute mile pace on your runs?
Come join the aGSTC Steady Striders! They have their own Facebook Group Page, coach, and group runs. Email gardenstatetrackclub@gmail.com and we will introduce you to our two co-captains!
