aGSTC SPRING TRAINING PLAN
WEEK ONE

The training plan will be sent out via the team email for the first 3 weeks. After that you will need to be a dues paying member to access the file on Google Drive. If you are not sure how to work with a shared google doc, let one of us know.

Much like the fall season, the championship races this season are also constructed in a way where we start with longer races and end with shorter races.  The plan is going to start off very similarly to how we started off in the fall, it was a 12 week base building phase that ended with the half marathon.  The first 11 weeks end with the 20k this spring.  Again the focus is on May/June so while you will be prepared to run a good 20k and 15k in March and April, those are not the focus of the season.  This plan will also prepare you for steeple/5k and up on the track and the planned peak coincides with our late season track meets and club nationals.

If you are interested in a track season with event focus from 1500-5k and competing in both indoors and outdoors there will be another training plan focused on that.

It is important to pick the proper mileage to build towards.  The mileage will be something you can hold comfortably for about 10 weeks.  This is not something we as coaches can make a blanket suggestion for you all as far as a target.  If you want some guidance, contact us individually and we can help you figure out what is best for you.

If you have trained at 70 miles a week effectively don't use this guide to build towards 100 and then drop to 75 during the middle of the season, build towards 70, 75, or 80 and plan on holding that mileage during the season.  I would suggest not going significantly higher than what you have done successfully in the past, but don't be afraid to inch it up or keep it the same as the fall.

If you have any questions or need clarification on anything contact either Ken Goglas (ken_goglas@hotmail.com) or Mike Fonder (michael.fonder@gmail.com).

If you are interested in a personalized training plan check out our coaching page on the website.

Week 1: Jan 5-11

Get legs used to running again.  Start mileage at 50-60% of what you plan on building towards. Just get the miles in and don't worry at all about pace.

Monday: 30-50 min run

Tuesday: 30-50 min run, 4x100m strides

Wednesday: 40-60 min run or cross train or off

Thursday: 35-55 min run

Friday: 35-55 min run, 6x100m strides

Saturday: 40-60 min run or off

Sunday: 50-70 min long run
