Road Relays
The Art of Naming Your Relay

With the fifth annual aGSTC's Road Relays less than a month away, slated for Sunday March 1, relay planning becomes the priority.  Many club members ask themselves the following questions:

1.  Who will be my partner?
2.  What will be our relay name?
3.  What category will we enter?
4.  What outfit/costume/uniform will we wear?
5.  What is the Hawley Smoot tariff again?

Typically, teams struggle most with the second question.  Here's a quick guide to naming your relay team.

Approach #1: Standard.  Nothing wrong with this route, as examples from last year include "Ellen and Lou," "McGill," "Happy Feet," etc.

Approach #2: Funny.  This is always a fun angle, as teams from last year used ""Will & Tad's Excellent Adventure," "Two Laps Too Long," "I'd Rather Be in Hawaii," etc.

Approach #3: Costume-Based.  This can be the most challenging, as and the name and the outfit have to match.  Examples from 2014 include "Kittens with Mittens," "Wonder Twins," and "Sparkly Spartans."

Approach #4: Innuendo.  Go for it...go ahead.  And good luck.  Last year has teams called "Hood and Wood, "Double D's," and "Mike's Moms."

Gold Stars
by Bri Teichmann

Lindsay Prettyman
Lindsay ran at University of Delaware, both cross country and track.  She's a miler but also runs the 800m and distances up to a 5k.  She's got some awesome PRs: 800m: 2:08; mile: 4:45; 5k: 16:48.  Lindsay also ran in the 2013 NCAA DI Cross country Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana!  She loves to run on the trails in White Clay Creek State Park.

She currently still lives in Delaware and goes to physical therapy school at the University of Delaware.  Unfortunately Lindsay doesn't much time for hobbies really other than running because she's always so busy.  She will, however, make the exception for some Netflix or the occasional happy hour!

Fun fact about Lindsay: she has a twin sister and her 3 younger siblings are triplets!!  Welcome to the team!

Aya Leitz
Aya is one of our newest members and she is super excited about joining Garden State Track Club!  She joins us from Jersey City with her husband Karl.

Aya is a serial road racer - running marathons and mid-distance races frequently.  Last year, she ran an a total of 58 races, 10 of those were marathons!!  She set a PR in the marathon of 3:13 last year  and is hoping to go sub-3:10 this year.

In season, Aya often does back to back races.  While she knows this is not the traditional approach, it has been working for her.  Aya is durable and can recover quickly - and she loves it!!  She also likes to swim and bike and enjoys short-course triathlons in summer.

Aya works for a Japanese Investment company near Wall Street, in Downtown Manhattan doing settlement of securities.  She is bilingual - Japanese and English (with Japanese accent).

Some fun facts about Aya!  Since she's Japanese, she must have rice everyday! Her favorite topping over rice is natto (fermented soybeans).  The Leitz's freezer is always stocked up with frozen natto.  She loves slimy texture!!  Anything slimy like okra or grated yam makes her a happy camper!

WELCOME AYA!!

Rachel Elfoully
Rachel is one of the newest ladies to join the Black & Gold.  She just recently started running back in November and is now training for her first half marathon!  Rachel already has a handful of 5ks under her belt, with a PR of 30:24!  Her best mile to date is 9:10, which is major progress from her November running!!  She is currently up to 7 mile long runs and she typically runs in the Franklin Township area.

Rachel works with male juvenile delinquents ranging from ages 15-20.  Her hobbies include wine making, cooking and reading.  She has a 1.5 year old golden retriever, who she absolutely adores!

Welcome to the team, Rachel!
