Twitter Follower of the Week
As you may know, Josh Neyhart runs the club's Tinder page.  Oh wait, we mean Twitter.  If you haven't followed us @GardenStateTC, you should.  In fact, 713 people are following us--seven more than last week.  Yeah, Josh!

This week's "Twitter Follower of the Week" is a start-up company called FrozenPeaz.  Instead of buying, freezing, and using real peas to relieve running pain...you can, instead, just buy this product called FrozenPeaz.

Major differences include:
1.  Spelling of the words peas.

Masters Distance Star

Wes Cole

Wes Cole joins GSTC with hopes of meeting many of our great runners and a group that would push him to post great times. He stopped into the Summit running company a few weeks ago looking for a friendly group of runners to train with and push him to run harder. The good news is he decided that GSTC was the group that would make him faster! In September he was CEO of a software start up in Austin Texas. Monday morning meant waking up around 4:30AM to catch the 6:30AM flight from Newark to Austin.  Most mornings, before work in Austin, he runs the Town Lake trail , a beautiful gravel trail along the river that had a double espresso at Caffe Medici downtown.  After the usual workday of phone calls, emails, online and team meetings, a swim and a beer, he facetimes his kids.

Traveling to Austin every week got old after 7 months, so  in October he went back to Basking Ridge.  Most mornings his wife Lulia and him get their two kids (Mitya 8 and Sasha 13) ready for school.  He does consulting work for tech companies in his home office or out on the deck if the weather is nice. He even travels to clients in New Jersey or New York 2-3 days per week.  He is  home in time to help manage a busy travel soccer practice schedule for the boys.

His favorite run in the world is through the hills above Stanford University.  He called it "The Dish" because you run past a huge satellite dish, not to mention cows and the occasional mountain lion and skunk.  The smell of the dry grass, the burning of the lungs going up hill,  and the view of the Bay and distant hills when you get to the top hooked him on running for 25 years.

If he could travel back in time, he would go to August 30, 1904 in St. Louis Missouri where the winning time in the Olympic marathon was 3:28:53.  The conditions were horrible: 90 degrees, no water on the course, dusty road choked with car exhaust, but with the right support and preparation perhaps he could have contended.  He lived in St. Louis in 3rd - 5th grade which would have made it even more special. Great story if you haven't read it.

The Grand Return of

Steinman Gets aGSTC #2 in NYC

NYC- Anna Steinman, in her first ever marathon, ran the club's second fastest time, cruising the five borough of New York City for a 3:05:09 final time.  She ran a very even, patient race, finishing just a few seconds faster than Karen Auteri's effort last month in Steamtown, now ranked #3 all time.

Anna finishing the race in Central Park

Anna opened with a 22:09 5k, then a quicker next 5k as she hit 43:05 for 10k.  She was 1:05:08 for 15k, 1:26:49 for 20k, then hit the half at 1:31:32.  This means she ran her second half in 1:33:37--impressively close to an even-split race.

Josh Neyhart ran 2:54:41 in his first foray into the distance.

Bridge Run: It's a South Thing

2,862 runners flooded the streets of Camden for the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge 10k, and five of them were rocking black and gold.

Joe Zeoli, center, was the first to cross the finish line, running a solid 34:09 to finish 11th overall.  Michelle Brangan, right, ripped a 39:08, winning the masters division of the race.  Adam Cooper and Abel Bermudez placed 48th and 49th, running 39:33 and 39:40, respectively.  Angela Dunn, left, was 6th women overall in 40:36, winning her age group of 305 runners.

Bruce, Wang PR in Princeton Half

Meghan Bruce and Regina Wang, coming off strong races last weekend in the USATF-NJ 8k Championships, both ran PRs today in the Princeton Half Marathon.

Bruce finished 8th overall, and 3rd overall woman, with a fine 1:29:36 through the hilly course.  Wang ran 1:36:12, good for 3rd in her age group with a solid 7:20 average!

Auteri Wins 5k

To complete her USATF-NJ Grand Prix scorecard, Karen Auteri won the Transitions 5k in 2012.  This 500 point win brings her to third place overall, with teammate Cheyenne Ogletree with a commanding lead.

Carvente 2nd Overall

Eddie Carvente was second overall in the Turkey Tune-Up 5k this weekend at Pt. Pleasant.  He finished in 17:56.

TMA: Totally Misunderstood Award

Sprinter Kevin Mulcahey reports, from Facebook, this is a registered park in Florida.

Who gets the TMA- the park officials, or Kevin, for posting this #$%^ while we're freezing out butts off in NJ?

Kyle's Korner

Kyle's Korner is a segment of the Club's weekly email that will focus on reacquainting you with a different current club member each week. We will catch you up on how they are doing with regards to their training, their lives, and other general nonsense. This segment intends to be informative and educational while attempting humor in a purely inoffensive way. Mostly.

This week on Kyle's Korner we spoke with the studly Steve Mennitt. Known for his craving of pre race coffee, tendency to frequent the Rutgers bus stations with no intention of getting on a bus, and of course amaxing perfomances at races, we learned a bit more about what drives him.

Kyle: Good afternoon Steve. Thanks for joining us.
Mr. Mennitt: Oh, my pleasure.
Kyle: How about we start off with how your training has been going this fall.
Mr. Mennitt: My IT band started acting up towards the end of August - right around the storm king 10k that I did with you, actually. I spent most of September rehabbing that, and not running much since it got worse. I started running consistently again last month, so it's been nice to get back into that 'routine.'
Kyle: That was a beast of a course we conquered. But IT band troubles are no joke, that would explain why we haven't seen a lot of you in black and gold this season. Very good to hear you're recovering though. When are you hoping to get back in to the competitive game?
Mr. Mennitt: I think I'll be ready to compete on some level sometime around turkey trot season...2 or 3 weeks. (gobble gobble)
Kyle: Are you looking to run a turkey trot?
Mr. Mennitt: Indeed. I have to justify that 4th slice of pumpkin pie somehow.
Kyle: Mmm good reasoning.
Lets Tarantino this talk and go back to the beginning. How have you come to this point in your career? When did you start your running?
Mr. Mennitt: After being the 'fast kid' throughout summer football & frisbee pickup games, I tried out for my high school's cross country team during my freshman year. Luckily, everyone is allowed to run, so I kept with it as I noticed I was getting faster each race. The hunger to keep bettering myself has been there for about 10 years now.

Kyle: A decade of destiny! What are some of your greatest achomplishments thus far?
Mr. Mennitt: It's hard to say. I have higher expectations for myself than what some of my personal records are. If I can stay injury-free and train hard for all of 2015, I'd say that would be my greatest accomplishment to date. "The process is the goal," as they say.
Kyle: A very noble cause. What events are you looking to make the goals happen in?
Mr. Mennitt: When the spring track season rolls around, I'd like to run a few 5ks on the track (which is what I wanted this past year, but I had an achilles issue that kept me out.) Basically, I want to have the results that commensurate with the level of dedication I have and the sacrifices I've made the past 10 years.
Kyle: I wish you the best of luck with that. I believe you have the ability. I want a similar end game myself.
Well I look forward to having you back the black and gold throwing down amazing times. That's all the time we have this week. Thank you for speaking with us.
Mr. Mennitt: You are ever so welcome.

Kyle: Tune in next week to see who we interview!
