Memorial Day Weekend Results

Club Records Fall in Throwing Events

Mo Riddick crushed her club shot put record on Thursday, throwing the shot 16.46m (54 feet) out in Arizona.  A few days days later, in the Paddy McGrath Hammer Series Invite in Middletown NY, Alina Duran and E'lana Lemon finished 1-2 in the women's hammer, throwing 55.18m and 52.84m, respectively.  Hours later, two GSTC high schoolers who don't have the hammer in high school, set PRs in the event:  Liam Morris (39.60m/New Providence) and Jimmy Friel (36.05m/West Orange).

Pontecorvo Sets CR in Staten Island

Staten Island- Victoria Pontecorvo continues to have a huge debut season with the GSTC, as she was the second female in the Staten Island Memorial Day Race yesterday.  The Rutgers grad ran 24:33, hence the bling in the attached picture, setting a new club record in the distance.  Tom Visicaro was 13th overall, finishing in 22:20 for 3rd in his age group.

Johnson. Ogletree Lead GSTC at Ridgewood

Ridgewood- Chris Johnson and Cheyenne Ogletree highlighted the Memorial Weekend of racing for the GSTC, as they both won prize money at the Ridgewood Run Monday.

Ogeltree fell just a few seconds short of her own club record, finishing the 10k in 36:13.  She was second overall.

In the next race, Johnson finished 4th in 15:09, clicking the 8th fastest time in club history.

Other 10k club finishers included Rob Nihen (33:16), Brad Livingston (38:02), Karen Auteri (40:24), Mark Domradsky (45:15), Peter Auteri (45:27).  Jon Lindenauer (16:13) and Allie Dublinski (18:41) had solid performances in the 5k, the second event of the day, while masters captain Matt Baker finished 9th in the masters mile in 5:23.

Atilla PRs in 5k

Rahway- Atilla Sabahoglu continues his mid-life PR crisis, running 15:22 at the Mayor’s Cup this weekend.  This is an all-time best, as Atilla sure is supporting our long-standing belief that the gold uniform makes you run faster.

Ken Walsh also ran 30:23 for 45th place at the Spring Lake 5 Miler, while Karen Welby was second woman at a 5k in Chester, NY finishing with a  21:06 final time.  As her picture shows, she won wine AND a trophy!

Gold Star

By Ashwin Anantharaman

Bradley Livingston

Brad joined GSTC after earlier in May after the Broad Street 10 mile race in Philadelphia.  He had run a number of races in his early 20’s but had taken a few years off.  Over the winter, he refocused on running and began diligently training again.  The Broad Street this year was nearly 6 minutes faster than his previous PR.  After that race, he started looking up running clubs online to see if he could join with a group of runners to continue to push himself towards better times.  GSTC has a number of very strong distance runners and looked to be a great fit for him. He recently set PRs for 10 mile (61:59) and half marathon (83:06).  He ran  the Ridgewood 10k on Memorial Day in 38:02.  He was also was accepted in the lottery for the Chicago marathon in October and his goal is to qualify for Boston.  He recently read Hanson’s Marathon Method and will be using that for his marathon training (he used their half marathon training program for the Superhero Half).Pre race he likes to eat something simple (usually a cliff bar), get to races early so he is not rushed, run a mile or so,  focus on his goal for  his for the race, and the task at hand.He enjoys cycling and completed my first triathlon last year and would like to do more in the future.  If not exercising, he enjoys spending time with his wife Christine and others at the church he attends, Cornerstone in Wyckoff.
