Cahill, Rathbun, Donohue PR as Men Fall Just Short in QG 8k Team Contest
In a competitive three-way contest between Boulder TC and the Georgetown Running Club, the GSTC fell just short of winning Event #1 of the Quarantine Games.  Finishing with 61 total points, they were bested by BTC (29) and GRC (42).  Several clubs weren't able to field full teams for the 8k, but they will for future races.

That aside, the monster PR efforts of Mike Cahill (24:50), Stephen Rathbun (24:51), and Sean Donohue (24:55) put the club in the mix with 6-7-8 place finishes, respectively.  But ultimately, BTC and GRC, traditionally two of America's strongest clubs, were just too strong and deep.

Sean Stetler rallied for a solid 25:36 as the #4 man, and club stalwart Aaron Leskow was the #5 in 25:57.

Singh winning the 8k at Thomas Edison Park.

Hall of Famer Jeff Perrella (26:06) was the top man for the B Team, with Aditya Singh (26:07), Matt Eder (26:41), Tony Harris (26:42), and Brad Kilheeny (27:04) rounding out a solid next five.

Rozhko Leads W40s to Team Win

The GSTC W40s team won the W40s Quarantine Games 8k, and perhaps to no big surprise.  Not only do they have an undefeated streak in NJ that extend almost two years, but they also finished third at the USATF Club National XC Championships this December in Lehigh, PA.

Although Allison Steele from BTC had the fastest time, the trio of Elena Rozhko (31:11), Jen Martin (31:43), and Heather McDermott (33:40) had the best overall team finish.

M40s Shock WVTC with Six Point Win
Nysasinga Wins Overall, Helping GSTC Defeat 2x National Champs from CA's Bay Area

In perhaps the event's biggest upset, the M40s team squeaked by powerhouse West Valley TC with a 38-44 win.  Although WVTC has won the team title in the last two national club xc championships, they weren't able to muster up enough firepower to beat the two-time defending M40 USATF Grand Prix Champs.

Newcomer Duncan Nyasinga was the overall winner of the M40s 8k; his 25:41 was forty second faster than Cal Coast's superstar Jaques Sallberg and fifty seconds faster than Boulder TC's Clint Wells.  A resident of Edison, Nyasinga trains at Thomas Edison Park and joined the GSTC in June, just weeks before his 41st birthday.

Another new member, Kevin Shirk, made a huge contribution by running 26:59.  Despite battling achilles issues all summer, Shirk soloed the twenty laps all by himself on the final evening of the race window.

Jonathan Frieder was the team's #2 man and, with his impressive 26:57 performance at age 49, was the squad's top age-graded performance with an 88% PLP.  His twin brother Elliott, running solo on the contest's last day, crossed the finish line in 27:46--good for 13th overall and the team's #5 man.  That said, the M40s team will be in trouble come November as they both turn 50 to join the M50s team.

Dave Ferruggia had a huge PR, at 26:59, to finish 8th overall and tied for #3 man with Shirk.

 Open Women a Close Third
Driscoll, Niles Break 30 in 8k Efforts
Coombs Racing at Thomas Edison Park
Like the open men, the open women ran well for their season opener...but fell just short of two national powerhouse running clubs.

Meaghan Driscoll (29:34) and Alexandra Niles (29:35) had strong sub-30 minute performances, finishing 4-5 overall.  Filling out the scoring top five were Emily Rosario (31:00), Marisa Coombs (31:16), Shannon McKenna (31:40). and Miri Goldberg (31:58).

An Injury-Riddled M50s Settle for Second to West Valley TC
Segaloff running a huge 8k PR at Thomas Edison Park.

The M50s team will surely be the country's best once the Frieder twins turn 50.  But right now, they're a talented group battling injuries that settled for a team silver medal against perennial powerhouse WVTC, 28-44.  Cal Coast was bronze with 68 points.

Todd Wiley ran the second fastest time of all 50s competing with a sizzling 27:19.  Teammates Mark Zamek (28:26), John Hogan (29:16), and Steve Segaloff (29:24) all dipped under 30, as Eric Davis (31:10) rounded out the team's scoring 5.
