Hello everyone. This is Adam Nalven, I was a Rutgers teammate of Tafelski, Chuck, and Alex. And I also student-taught President's Cup Champion and recent Yale Grad, Jeff Perella. He didn't know how to run and was illiterate before he got to me...he turned out all right!
I have been unable to attend any GSTC practices, so the President's Cup was the first time I saw everyone together, and I was greatly impressed with the team dynamic and the success everyone achieved.
I live in Brick, close to the shore, and wanted to see if there was interest out there in planning a weekend distance run at the boardwalk. We could start at the Spring Lake boardwalk, which is about 10 minutes off of exit 98 of the GSP. The boardwalk runs about 7.5 miles out through some beautiful shore towns and historic beachfront. People could go out and back any distance that would work for them. We could try to time the start times so that everyone would finish back at the same time and be able to take an immediate Garden State Track Club team ocean dive! It feels great after a hot long run.
It would be best to start early and finish before it gets too hot and they start charging to get onto the beach. But that would mean finishing the run at 9am (which could be a very early start if people are traveling far. My guess is from New Brunswick, it would take about an hour) A compromise might be starting at 8am, and finishing around 9:30 or 9:45am. We could probably arrange the beach attendants to simply let us just jump in the ocean for a minute at that time.
Parking is free and at that time, would be ample. If people wanted to stay for the day on the beach, it's $9. Before we get times set, just reply if you are interested and what time would serve you best. I think Sunday, July 10th would be good, but people can throw around other dates.
